Birding in the Garden Route
Woodbourne Resort is a birding paradise and the big trees and park like surroundings provide the ideal habitat for a wide variety of bird life including the Knysna Loerie. Woodbourne also adjoins our private vlei which is a waterbird sanctuary so special that it attracts migrant waders from as far as Siberia. We have the also “Roberts Birds of South

The mission of Garden Route Birding is to develop a accessibility to Birding and provide information to tourists in the Garden Route and Little Karoo. The Garden Route offers a diverse range of habitats and is home to approximately 300 species of birds with close to 30 species endemic to the Southern Cape making it an ideal destination for bird watching when making travel plans in South Africa. With a variety of scenic routes, formal bird hides, three National Parks and numerous Cape Nature reserves, opportunity abounds for a rewarding Birding visit to the region. In a short period of time you are able to traverse fynbos, Afromontane forest, Milkwood Forest, Dune fynbos, wetland, marshes and lakes, riverine systems and coastline offering viewing of the colourful Sunbirds, glimpses of African Real, and the reward of spotting both the Knysna Turaco and Narina Trogon.
